Câu phức là một trong những cấu trúc ngữ pháp quan trọng trong chương trình học tiếng Anh nhưng vẫn khiến cho nhiều bạn khá bối rối. Trong bài viết hôm nay, KISS English sẽ chia sẻ cho các bạn về câu phức tiếng Anh lớp 9.

Định nghĩa

Câu phức là câu bao gồm 1 mệnh đề độp lập (independent clause) và ít nhất 1 mệnh đề phụ thuộc (dependent clause) liên kết với nhau. Hai mệnh đề thường được nối với nhau bởi dấu phẩy hoặc các liên từ phụ thuộc (subordinating conjuntions).

– Mệnh đề đi liền với liên từ trong câu phức chính là mệnh đề phụ thuộc.

– Mệnh đề phụ thuộc nằm phía trước mệnh đề độc lập, thì giữa hai mệnh đề phải có dấu phẩy còn lại thì không.

Eg: Even though he is busy, he always takes time to play with his daughter.

Trong đó: Mệnh đề phụ thuộc là “he is busy”, mệnh đề độc lập là “he always takes time to play with his daughter”.

Một số mệnh đề phụ thuộc

Mệnh đề phụ thuộc chỉ sự nhượng bộ (dependent clause of concession)

Là mệnh đề thể hiện một kết quả bất ngờ, khác với dự đoán, mong đợi

Bắt đầu bằng một liên từ phụ thuộc như: though (dù), although (mặc dù), even though (thậm chí dù)  

Ví dụ: Although Jim didn’t study hard, he still got high marks (Mặc dù Jim không học chăm chỉ, cậu ấy vẫn đạt điểm cao)

Mệnh đề phụ thuộc chỉ mục đích (Dependent clause of purpose)

Là mệnh đề thể hiện mục đích của hành động trong mệnh đề độc lập

Bắt đầu bằng liên từ phụ thuộc như: so that, in order that (để mà)

Lưu ý: So that không bao giờ đứng đầu câu

Ví dụ: Min woke up early so that she could park the lunch box for herself (Min dậy sớm để có thể chuẩn bị hộp cơm trưa cho mình)

Mệnh đề phụ thuộc chỉ nguyên nhân (Dependent clause of reason)

Là mệnh đề trả lời cho câu hỏi vì sao

Bắt đầu bằng liên từ phụ thuộc như because, since, as (vì)

Ví dụ: I didn’t go out last night because it rained (Tối qua tôi không ra ngoài vì trời mưa)

Mệnh đề phụ thuộc chỉ thời gian (Dependent clause of time)

Là mệnh đề chỉ ra thời điểm mà hành động, sự việc trong mệnh đề độc lập

Bắt đầu bằng liên từ phụ thuộc như: when (khi), while (trong khí), before (trước khi), after (sau khi), as soon as (ngay sau khi)

Ví dụ: When I worked in japan, I made a lot of friends
